USA1945/57 Washington D.C. Transit System "Silver Sightseer" PCC 1512 - original version.

To increase the image of the streetcars, car 1512 was rebuilt by D.C. Transit System Inc. in 1957 as "Silver Sightseer". It was world's first air-conditioned streetcar beign fitted with the improved roof monitor from car 1332 which carried four air-conditioned units. The windows were sealed and three color slides of Washington landmarks were mounted in each standee window. The car was equipped with new wooden doors, new seats and fluorescent lighting. The trial ran of the Silver Sightseer has taken place in June 1957 and it was later settled down to sightseeing service from Peace Monument to Potomac Park. The car was involved in a February 1961 accident and then was rebuilt using a front end of car 1538. The Silver Sightseer was preserved by DCTS and in March 1970 it was transferred to the National Capital Trolley Museum where it was destroyed by vandals and scrapped.

The colorful board was added to the roof of Silver Sightseer car in late 1960. At this time the famous "Capitol-White House" destination sign was't in use because the trackage west of 14th St NW on PA Avenue was abandoned in January 1960 when routes 20 and 30 were converted to bus operation and after that the car operated from Union Station to Mt.Pleasant via Pennsylvania and Connecticut avenues.
