ref127.gif (9736 bytes)Trolleybus operation was started in Tampere on 8th December 1948. First three trolleybuses, numbered 1-3 were delivered by Valmet in the same year and a batch of 10 additional vehicles arrived in 1949. This model was called by Valmet as “JD” and many components for these trolleybuses were imported from Britain. The electric equipment was manufactured by British Thomson Houston (BTH), brake and air pressure system was made by Westinghouse and axles were made by Kirkstall. Almost all trolleybuses of this series were rebuilt in middle 60s and remained in service until the end of trolleybus operation in Tampere on 15th May 1976 (Information via Timo Lehtonen).

ref127a.gif (9327 bytes)First three Helsinki trolleybuses were ex-Stockholm Scania-Vabis F1-class vehicles imported from Stockholm and in 1949 five additional trolleybuses, numbered 604-608 were delivered by Valmet. This was a JD model, similar to Tampere version.

ref.146The trolleybus route No 14 in Helsinki was opened on 5 February 1949; between 1949 and 1960 26 trolleybuses were delivered for operation; in May 1973 three brand-new Soviet ZIU-9 trolleybuses were delivered for six-months trial; all were return to the ZIU plant in November 1973 and on 14 June 1974 the route No 14 was converted to diesel bus operation.
