1947 SNCV/NMVB St.Louis Car Co. PCC 10419 (Job 1668,
acq. in 1948)
In
November 1946 Ateliers de Constuctions Electriques de Charleroi (ACEC),
a subsidary of Westinghouse placed the order with St.Louis Car Co. for
three all-electric PCC. One unit was to be shipped complete, while two
others were to be in knocked-down form to enable carbuilder firm of La
Brugeoise et Nicaise et Delcuve to study fabrication methods (they later
were built as cars 1001 and 1002 for the Hague). The completed car was
add-on to Detroit order (Job 1661) and it was finished in the Washington
livery. The demonstrator was shipped to Belgium in September 1947, arriving
in Brussels in November 1947. Over the next five months the PCC ran in
trials in Brussels and Liege and finally was purchased by the Societe
Nationale des Chemins de Fer Vicinaux (SNCV) in April 1948. For use on
the meter-gauge system, the Clark B-6 trucks were imported from United
States in July and car was placed in service on 28 August 1948 in Knokke
on line 13 (coastal group of routes). The car was erroneously numbered
100419 at first, and shortly correct number 10419 was applied. It was
used later on other coastal routes in Ostende and Knokke but in October
1949 is was transferred to Brussels-Leuven route. In Autumn 1953 with
other PCC cars assigned to Brussels-Leuven route is was transferred to
Charleroi, but never placed again in service and was scrapped in September
1959.
