USA1947 Shaker Heights Rapid Transit St.Louis Car Co. PCC (51-55 series, ex-TCRT, acquired in 1953/54) - original livery.

455In January 1953 Shaker Heights Rapid Transit agreed to buy twenty PCC cars from Twin City Rapid Transit, TRCT numbers 340-359. The sale price was $415,000, it included some electrical work and replacing the 25-inch wheels with the 26-inch version favored by SHRT. The cars were repainted by the TCRT shop in the Shaker livery: bright yellow body, three green stripes and gray roof. Five of the cars, numbered 51-55 were not given MU controls and were intended for non-rush-hour service in Shaker Boulevard branch. Other 15 cars were rebuilt for MU operation (56-70 series). Car 55 was the first to be shipped to SHRT, arriving in March 1954, all twenty cars were delivered by September 1954.

455-1In 1960s the stop lights on the Shaker PCC cars were removed and three green stripes livery was changed to two thin or one wide green stipe version. Ex-Minneapolis cars remained in service until December 1985.

  40-49 series PCC cars (ex-St.Louis Publis Service)

USA1946 Shaker Heights Rapid Transit St.-Louis Car Co. PCC (40-49 series); ex-SLPS, acq. in 1959

In 1959 Shaker Heights Rapid Transit acquired 10 PCC of 1700-series from St.Louis Public Service Co. (ex 1766-1775).The SLPS Park Shops rebuilding these cars with standard three-pedal control and rewiring them for multiple-unit operation. All ten cars were painted in Shaker yellow/grey/green livery before delivery. This group of cars was numbered 40-49 (car 40 was renumbered 50 in 1975) and remained in service until 1982.

  • Ref.151a1: "Mid 60s" (dash lights and stop lights removed, yellow anticlimbers).
