SU 1970/75 Gorky LM-68 PCC (3401-3455 series).

16aGorky (now Nijni Novgorod) was a good Customer of the Leningrad trams: first LM-49/LP-49 cars were delivered in 1958-1960 (in service until 1980), 95 LM-57 cars were bought in 1961-68 (in service until 1983). Between 1970 and 1975 Gorky acquired 55 LM-68 PCCs, they were numbered 3401-3455 and worked on the most busy routes served the GAZ automobile plant from depot No.3. They were delivered in regular Leningrad LM-68 factory red, white and gray livery and were fitted with pantographs, which were replaced later by bow collectors. In later years, the livery was changed to dark red, white and gray. Because of the problems with body strength, the "Aquariums" had a very short service life of 9 years only - first of them were scrapped in 1979 and last LM-68 was withdrawn from service in 1984. The next generation of the Leningrad's trams (LM-68M) was purchased in much smaller quanity: only 3 cars (3456-3458) were acquired in 1975 and were in service until 1987, ending era of the Leningrad built trams in Gorky. While LM-49 (No.687) and LM-57 (No.2567) cars were preserved, none of the LM-68s were saved except the rail grinder car No. 005 which still exists in depot No.2.
