SEPTA Philadelphia Norristown Line 480-series Rapid Transit Car (ex-CTA
6000-series, acq. in 1986).
In
1986 Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority purchased two
6000-series rapid transit PCC cars from Chicago for use on Route 100,
also known as the Norristown High Speed Line (part of the former Philadelphia
& Western Railway). They were repainted in the new SEPTA colors, equipped
with bars under the doors and numbered to 480-series. In 1994-1996 twenty-six
new cars, built by Adtranz were delivered and ex-Chicago cars were withdrawn
from regular service.
