1966/68 Leningrad LVS-66 Articulated PCC (1001-1004 series).

15In 1966 Leningrad VARZ factory produced first articulated PCC-type tram in the Soviet Union which was called LVS-66. Some structural peculiarities didn't allow it to move along the crooked sections of a route of small radius (with the radius less than 16 meters) that's why just a few tram depots could operate them. The LVS-66 car was the first to obtain the indirect control system, light glazed salon, positive ventilation and rheostat heating of the salon. This very attractive tram, numbered 1001, was painted in the tan livery with dark brown stripe and was delivered to tram depot No.1 where it was extensively tested since November 1966 on route 3. In September 1967 car 1001 was transferred to depot No. 9 and was used on route 13. Second LVS-66 car, 1002, was built in 1967 and in 1968 two more cars, 1003 and 1004 were produced. All were operated by depot No.9 on route 19 going through the downtown and connecting all five Leningrad's railway stations. Car 1001 had unique headlights, cars 1002-1004 had lights similar to LM-68 tram (car 1001 was later rebuilt to the same configuration). Car 1001 was destroyed by fire, but other three cars remained in operation until 1985, in last years of operation they were used on route 56, beign
renumbered 9001-9003.
