Roger Somers comments regarding ALRV model powering:
My ALRV runs fine up and down all my hills and around the tightest of corners (9" radius) and I am using the original equipment diaphragm that came with the model from SPTC. I must admit that the diaphragm did seem stiff at first but it proved not to be a factor in the operating performance of the model. I would recommend double power. That is the front and rear truck powered and adding weight to each section under the floor. Q Car company powered the trucks that came with the model. I sent all 3 plastic trucks to him and Quentin converted them. Be sure to label the location where each truck comes from under the car as it makes a difference when they go back in. I did have to increase the clearance a bit in the center truck where it mounts to the body to get it to run better. I used two 1/16 thick lead strips the full width between the support ribs on the under floor on each car section for weights. The length of the strips was the full distance between the center truck and outside truck for each body section. The lead I used is the type used for flashing between a chimney and roof. You can buy it by the foot at Home Depot or your local hardware store. The ALRV is a real good runner and it has become one of the most commonly run cars on my layout.
