ref175.gif (9035 bytes)In March 1945 Canadian Car & Foundry (CC&F) announced officially the signing of an agreement to built the ACF-Brill buses and trolleybuses under the name “Canadian Car-Brill”. Many operators placed the orders for new T-44 trolleybus very soon and serial production was started in 1946. The Toronto Transportation Comission had experimented with the use of electric trolleybuses for the first time in 1922 and in 1945 an order for T-44 model was placed to CC&F. In 1947 the first routes using the new vehicles were “Lansdowne” (June 19), “Annette” (October 16) and “Ossington” (December, 8) for which 75 trolleybuses, numbered 9000-9074 were delivered in 1947. 10 more vehicles arrived in 1948 (9074-9084).

This model represents the second group of Toronto T-44 trolleybuses, delivered also in 1947. Similar to T1-class and numbered 9050-9074, they had a roof ladder located behind the centre door.

canada1947 CC&F-Brill T-44 Trolleybus (ETS Edmonton 131-177 series)

ref175a.gif (6492 bytes)Edmonton Transit System also was one of earliest buyers of the new CC&F T-44 trolleybuses. The trolleybus system was opened in September 1939 and in October 1945 an order was placed to CC&F for 22 trolley coaches; they were delivered in 1947 (numbered 131-152). In March 1946, 25 more trolleybuses were ordered, also for delivery in 1947 (numbered 153-177). In 1948-49 15 more T-44s were delivered and with 10 ex-Regina (acquired in 1966) and 10 ex-Vancouver (acq. in 1962), Edmonton has 82 T-44s in its fleet. All T-44s were withdrawn from service in November 1978; Nos. 148 and 191 were preserved.

canada1947 CC&F-Brill T-44 Trolleybus (BCER Vancouver 2001-2030 series)

ref175b.gif (9625 bytes)The first two trolleybus lines (#6-Fraser and #15-Cambie) were opened in Vancouver by British Columbia Electric Ry (BCER) on August 16, 1948. First batch of 30 T-44 model (numbered 2001-2030) was built by CC&F in 1947 to opening of the system and 12 additional trolleybuses were built later this year with some minor modifications. In 1948 40 more T-44s were delivered to operate on the newly inaugurated routes. All future new trolleybuses delivered to BCER were a large 48-seat T-48 and T-48a models.10 T-44s of first Vancouver batch were sold to Edmonton in 1962 where they ran until 80s; other 20 were sold to scrap end of 60s.

canada1947 CC&F-Brill T-44 Trolleybus (Montreal Tramways 4010-4090 series)

ref175eThe Montreal Tramways Co. started trolley coach service on March 29, 1937. First seven AEC 664T 3-axle coaches were imported from England, with English Electric equipment and MCW body to operate on #26-Beaubien line. After the World War 2, Montreal placed three orders to CC&F-Brill: for 40 coaches in 1947, 40 in 1950 and 25 in 1952 - 105 trolleybuses at total. Montreal system reached its peak in 1952 with total length of all trolley coach lines of more than 29 miles. All lines were closed in 1966 and 100 vehicles were sold to Mexico City.

canada1948 CC&F-Brill T-44 Trolleybus (NSL&P Halifax 201-265 series)

Nova Scotia Light & Power Co, Ltd. placed an order for 65 CCF-Brill T-44 trolley coaches in 1947 and they were delivered in 1948 to opening of the first three lines in March 1949. These coaches were numbered 201-265 and by 1954 there was 81 CCF-Brill (all T-44 and T-44A models) trolleybuses in the Halifax fleet.

This model is available also in "as delivered" livery on order.

canada1947 CC&F-Brill T-44 Trolleybus (Calgary Transit System 400-429 series)

175gCalgary Transit System (CTS) ordered sixty CCF-Brill T-44 trolley coaches for delivery in 1947-1948. First thiry coaches arrived in 1947, being numbered 400-429 and the revenue service started on June 1, 1947 on Crescent Heights and Mt.Pleasant routes. Attractive blue-green and cream livery with gold trip was used on new trolley coaches. By 1950, CTS received 77 T-44s and then switched to larger T-48A model (only eight coaches were delivered in 1950-53). Coach 422 has been preserved and restored to the original livery.

canada1947 CC&F-Brill T-44 Trolleybus (METRO Winnipeg 1600-1648 series)

Winnipeg Electric Company ordered fourty-nine CCF-Bril T-44 coaches in 1947 and numbered them 1600-1648, all were GE equipped. At total, the company acquired 127 T-44 coaches in 1947-48. In 1961 the Metropolitan Corporation of Greater Winnipeg assumed control of the transit system and the trolley coach system was abondoned during sixties, last line was closed in October 1970.

canada1947 CC&F-Brill T-44 Trolleybus (B.C. Hydro 2031-2042)

The second batch of 12 T-44 trolley coaches numbered 2031-2042 was delivered to Vancouver in 1947. British Columbia Hydro, successor to B.C. Electric Railway, painted Vancouver's trolleybuses in the new livery; this batch was sold for scrap in 70s; only coach #2040 was preserved.
